On January 15, 2015, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) initiated a review of its Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material, 2012 Edition, IAEA Safety Standards Series No. SSR-6, and of the Advisory Material for the IAEA Regulations for the Safe Transport of Radioactive Material, 2012 Edition, IAEA Safety Standards Series No. SSG-26. The first document, SSR-6, establishes requirements to ensure safety and to protect persons, property and the environment from the effects of radiation during the transport of radioactive material(s). The second document, SSG-26 provides guidance on achieving compliance with SSR-6. The IAEA invites its Member States to identify issues and suggestions for changes to SSR-6 and SSG-26. For its part, the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission (CNSC) invites the public to provide their comments and suggestions on these two documents. The CNSC will compile all comments received and submit a Canadian response to the IAEA. Please use the IAEA form and send your comments and suggestions to the CNSC attransport@cnsc-ccsn.gc.ca before April 30, 2015. |
